This was a crazy day of fishing. I was trying to shoot video and photos but never really got the chance. We caught 9 tarpon and hooked 17 all in the course of a few hours. We were fishing with live bait in a tournament, hence our need to be so greedy.
This year’s tarpon season is winding down for our area. It was a lot of fun and we did some really different things this year. Tarpon fishing from ladders, pontoon boats and even hand-lines were some of the highlights. Here is a montage of random clips from this summer’s tarpon shenanigans.
I just finished up this video of a couple days in Key West throwing the Hogy at tarpon.
We fished in the final day of the 80th Sarasota Tarpon Tournament on Saturday. Tom caught a fish with a 39 inch girth to win week 5 and get into the final fish off. Unfortunately we didn’t even hook a fish in the final. We had some shots and saw plenty of tarpon, however the water was crystal clear and and it was the biggest tide of the year so beach fishing wasn’t ideal. Big thanks to CB’s Saltwater Outfitters and the rest of the sponsors for putting on another great tournament.
I spent a couple hours last week taking video and photos with my friend Mike Cosentino. Mike is a tarpon whisperer who has caught them in every way imaginable. Here are some photos of his current tarpon fishing method. And yes, the duck is his pet. I’ll try to get the video from this day posted soon, as it is pretty crazy.
