Red Bull Night Riders

This year’s Red Bull Night Riders event kicked off right as a nor’easter slammed the beaches of north Florida. Strong winds and rain didn’t stop the spectators from coming out and didn’t stop us from doing our job. We partnered with Drawing Lines Media to cover the event. With our cameras double trash-bagged, we stuck through the weather and didn’t miss a clip. DLM put this little edit together for the Red Bull website.

“The tide was high at Flagler Beach as six of the top southeast surfers fought the strong surf in one of the most unique tow-at competitions on the coast. Spectators roughed the rain and winds to cheer on the Red Bull Night Riders as they pushed their limits to pull off their best trick.” -Red Bull news

Hurricane Sandy | South Florida

The past week we have had the best waves I have ever seen in Florida. Here is a quick teaser of some footage I shot of the Sandy Swell. Shot over a few days in south Florida.

Surfers: Evan Geiselman, Tayler Brothers, Jesse Heilman, Oliver Kurtz, Chris Ward, Cory Lopez, Shea Lopez, Asher Nolan, Pete Mendia

*SLOW MOTION DISCLAIMER: There is a lot of slow motion in this video. It was shot on a slow motion camera so that’s kind of the point.

Enjoy.

Jacob from the Compound asked me if I could dig up a few “surf related” photos for a fundraiser/art show he is having. Here are some photos that I found while digging. Info on the art show can be found here. Photos © Cavin Brothers

Hurricane Irene

I took the lazy way out and surfed close to home the last couple of days. After a 5 hour surf, there is nothing better than being able to go home for a lunch/couch break before another afternoon surf. Here are a few shots of some lonely waves, some courtesy of me and some courtesy of Jackie who has been quite the tinkerer in things camera related lately. Thanks Irene, for the waves and for not destroying Florida.

Out of the Archives – Sebastian Inlet

This is an old edit from back in May of 2007. I just found it while tidying up some hard drives and thought I would upload it. Like most long period swells that hit Florida, this day was pretty closed out. I also remember the absurd amount of love bugs everywhere and trying to film while they were crawling over me.

Wave Pool Shoot

I just finished up this behind the scenes video from a photo shoot featuring Red Bull’s top emerging surfers at the Typhoon Lagoon wave pool. My buddy Robert Snow was the still photographer. We had a thunder storm roll in halfway through the shoot, which made for a frenzy to save the expensive strobes, generators and all of the other equipment. It worked out though and I think the results are great.
